Special Education Process

  • If a parent has concerns about learning or behavior with his or her child, the first step is contact the teacher. A phone call or discussion may alleviate the concern.
  • IAT-Intervention Assistance Team. If  a concern persists, the parents and teachers may meet with the principal and document interventions and how the child responds to the interventions. The School Psychologist is sometimes part of these meetings.
  • The team may meet multiple times to evaluate the effectiveness of the interventions.
  • If the concern persists, the team may suspect a disability and the child may be evaluated.

The goal is to help the child to be successful with the least adult intervention.
