On Tuesday, September 15th we were informed that a member of Greeneview Elementary School has tested positive for COVID-19. At this time, it is a single positive case. We worked late into the evening to conduct contact tracing to determine who had been within close contact to the individual. Close contact is defined as within 6 feet of distance for at least 15 consecutive minutes. This evening we made automated calls to all of the impacted students and staff members and informed them of their exposure. An email was also sent to the parent accounts of the children impacted, providing them with more details about the required quarantine following this exposure.
Copy of Letter Sent to Parents
The phone calls were sent individually to the impacted parents and it included the name of your child that was exposed. That child must stay home from school and may not return until Monday, September 28th. If there are other children in your home, they are not required to quarantine and may continue to attend school at this time. If the exposed child becomes sick, please contact your physician and the school to make us aware. If at any point in time during the quarantine someone in your home tests positive for COVID-19, then the entire home is required to quarantine for 14 days per Health Department guidelines. Greene County Public Health will make contact with the impacted families within the next few days to discuss contact tracing and to check in on the quarantining individuals. If you have questions about this quarantine, please contact the Elementary School or Board Office on Wednesday morning.
If you did not get a phone call or an email regarding this incident then there is no need to quarantine at this time.
We knew there was a risk involved in returning to school in person and we could not prevent all students or staff from exposure or infection. We are proud of the work our staff and students have done to protect the health and safety of each other and we are thankful for the open communication in this situation. It has enabled us to respond quickly and hopefully contain this to a single case. This is a good reminder to discuss the importance of maintaining social distancing, washing their hands, and wearing a mask with your children.
